Homemade Tomato Soup

Sometimes, nothing tastes better than a simple bowl full of hot, steaming, homemade soup…especially tomato soup. Pair it with a yummy grilled cheese sandwich, and you’ve got the perfect lunch combo! What we love best about this recipe is that it calls for simple pantry ingredients.

  • immersion blender


  • 1/4 c butter
  • 1/4 c beef broth
  • 1/2 t minced garlic
  • 1/4 c flour
  • 1 1/2 c milk
  • 3 c diced tomatoes
  • 1/2 t salt
  • 1 T sugar
  • 1 t dried basil


  • Melt the butter in a large saucepan. Add the broth.
  • Add minced garlic and simmer for one minute. Stir in flour and brown slightly.
  • Using a whisk, mix in milk and heat through. Add diced tomatoes. (NOTE: We use our bottled V-5 juice instead of diced tomatoes.) Add salt, sugar, and dried basil.
  • Mix well with an immersion blender. Let simmer on low, stirring often for 3-5 minutes.
